Now that Ulta has pulled its shops-in-shops from roughly 600 Target Corp. stores, the latter retailer is apparently planning to
fill those vacant spaces with its Target Beauty Studio concept, report a variety of news sources, including Retail Dive.
Target introduced that concept in February, but did not specifically say it was replacing the Ulta installs. The latter firm’s exit
from the trendy-but-price-conscious retailer’s stores was jointly announced by the firms last August.
The Beauty Studio concept is “a sign that Target is not giving up on more premium, inspirational and innovative beauty,”
GlobalData Managing Director Neil Saunders told Retail Dive in emailed comments. Target’s ability to have more control is
a good thing long term, with the potential for better margins, he added.
In its update, RD noted that Target will be introducing the Beauty Studios in about 600 locations, but had not yet released
an opening date or list of locations for those installations.
